1. Get Help Using This System

If you have found your way to these instructions, you are well on your way, as you are using the site menu structure.

Please check over the other topics listed at the beginning of this Section and read through any that seem to apply or describe the area of your concerns. We have included some that have been mentioned by folks like you in the past and the comments could very well address your concern.

2. Download a File

First lets determine which file you want to download. In the menu bar on the left where you found this How Do I ... section under the Main Menu heading, look under the Categories heading for the files available for downloading. Currently these include "> Bible Lectures by Books", "> Bible Lectures by Venue" and similar titles of the various sections of files available for download. If you are currently attending one of the lecture series being presented at a venue, you would likely want to start here. This link opens a page of the various venues currently holding classes in Arizona.

Click on the venue of interest and a Page will be displayed with all current lectures available for that venue including the most recent. A word about the file naming convention, the format is generally [Venue ID] - [Book] - [Lecture number in this series] - [Date the lecture was presented in a MMDDYY format]. Locate the particular file in which you are interested. Note that a price is indicated with each file ranging from 0.00 to 2.00, which is the amount you will be required to commit for that particular download. More about paying later.

Click on the file you wish to download. You will be presented a Page on that specific file with added details and description, and the ability to add this file to your (shopping) Cart or Wish List which keeps track of items in which you have an interest but don't wish to buy/download at this time.

Assuming you wish to proceed with buying a file, you would click on Add to Cart button and immediately be presented with a status of your Shopping Cart with a listing of all items currently contained therein. You could click on the Continue Shopping to add more items to this buy or click on the Checkout button if this order contains all the items you want to download at this time,

The Checkout screen would be displayed detailing this order and a block to enter any discount code which might apply to this order. There is only one means of paying for this order, Credit Card or PayPal, so that is already checked for you.

Lets discuss payment means. We use PayPal as our settlement agent for credit card purchase but a PayPal account IS NOT REQUIRED to make use of your credit card. There is a strong effort to encourage you to create a PayPal account, but that IS NOT NECESSARY. Click on continue to get the summary checkout screen. Check over the transaction information and if all is right, click on continue. Note that you will be transferred to the PayPal system at this point for completion of the payment. All transaction communication while connected to the PayPal system is encrypted to avoid any possibility of a third party intercepting any of that information. Note TWO methods of payment are available, the first by means of a PayPal Account, and a second "Pay with debit or credit card". If you do not have or want to use your PayPal account, select this second means. This click will open a form with required information similar to any credit card purchase. You will be guided through additional screens to complete the transaction. The only confusion might be if you do have a funded PayPal account (I do) in which case they offer you the opportunity (again) to use those funds. The link to continue a credit card purchase is next to a VERY prominent button to change to that means of payment. Clicking on that less prominent link does complete the transaction and charge the purchase to your credit card. On that final completion screen is a link "Return to ArizonaBibleClass" offering to take you back to the ABC site. Clicking on that link first gets a warning message you are leaving the secure PayPal site and the connection is no longer secure (encrypted) and finally to an Order Summery page indicate the email containing the download link has been sent to your email address.

That download email will look similar to the following:



Note the actual file link is in bold face toward the bottom of that Email form. Click on that link to initiate the actual download.

Please do the actual downloading of the file as soon as you reasonably can as the system "turns off" the link for the download after about 48 hours as a security feature. During that 48 hour period you may download that file as many times as you desire. Note that the file download will be directed to whatever location on your system as has been configured. Generally on Windows systems this is a Download folder in your My Documents folder, but may have been setup differently. It may prove necessary to do a search of your system for the file name you downloaded. The actual downloaded file will contain that file name as well as an 8 character identification code, which changes with each new download, but will always contain that basic file name. Note that these files are generally 9 megs, and depending on the speed of you Internet can take a number of minutes to complete.

3. Determine the download file type

The most common file you would download from this site is a MP3 Audio File. All lectures are presented here in that format. Depending on how your computer is configured, your media player software could launch automatically and begin playing the software as soon as the download is completed. Most lectures are 1 1/2 hours long and result in a file size of right at 9 megabytes, which could take several minutes to transfer, depending on the speed of your Internet connection. Once the file has been transferred to your computer, the file can be loaded on your portable player, like an Ipod or San Disk MP3 player. More on that in another article.

Documents, catalogs and printed notes are available as PDF Files. This is a file format pioneered by Adobe and which has become a standard for the sharing of printed material. A free copy of the reader designed for the viewing of this type of document can be obtained as a no cost download directly from Adobe by clicking here. The reason this file format has become so popular is the format faithfully captures virtually all printed material details including graphics, regardless how it was generated. The file then allows the viewing, printing and transferring of that document.

An additionsl file format available from ABC is the PPS Microsoft PowerPoint Slide Show. This is used to make available selections of the slides Kevin has used in support of selected of his lectures. Those with Microsoft Office installed likely have a copy of PowerPoint installed and the slide show should launch after the download. Microsoft also makes available a free copy of a PowerPoint viewer which can be downloaded and installed by clicking here. An alternative is Oracle's Open Office Suite which can be downloaded for no charge by clicking here.

A final file type which may be downloaded is a ZIP archive file. In a few cases lectures need the support of a slide presentation and the two type files are offered together in this format so they can be obtained for a combination price and make clear they are to be used together. There are any number of programs which will allow the listening to the the lecture and in another window, to view the slides. Right Click on the ZIP file and pull down the listing of programs that may be available on your machine. With Windows XP "Compressed (zipped) folder" option is offered which works well. A license for WinZip may be your simplest answer if you do not have any software which allows you to open this file.

4. Take Advantage of a Discount Code

All can take advantage of one discount code available for those purchasing all the lecture files in any Book. This discount of 25% is available regardless of the number of lectures needed to complete that book, whether it be 1 or 20. Enter your order for all lectures noted for that book and when checking out enter FullBook in the discount block when available. Proceed with your order and note that the discount is applied and the amount due has been reduced by the discounted amount. If it hasn't, cancel out of the transaction, refer to item #1 of these articles, and send me an email describing what happened.

5. Make Use of the Wish List

The Wish List is a bookkeeping means which allows you to keep track of things you may want to buy in the future, but not include in any current order. The contents of your Wish List is shown as the second item whenever you view your Shopping Cart. You are always offered the opportunity to transfer items from your Wish List to your Shopping Cart, and the reverse on that Shopping Cart screen. You also can Delete items from either category on this Shopping Cart screen. If you Check Out at this point, only those items in your Shopping Cart are included in this particular order.

6. Make Sure Yahoo Spam Filter Doesn't Block My Download eMail

A number of folks using Yahoo.web mail have reported problems with the email containing the link to a purchased lecture not showing up in their "Inbox". In investigating I found the problem does exist, but in a seemingly random manner (i.e. doesn't alway happen). In all cases when email containing the link didn't show up in the "Inbox" folder, it could always be found in the "Spam" folder as long as "SpamGuard" was set to, "Automatically send suspected spam to my Spam folder", which fortunately seems to be the default setting. If that is not set, I have no idea where the email considered Spam is sent, and it well could be lost. By highlighting that "email with link" considered spam and selecting "Not Spam" from the menu bar, the email was immediately moved to my inbox and subsequent email of this type were sent to my Inbox automatically. I am assuming the email source was somehow thereby "white listed" though that was not mentioned anywhere I could find.

How do I make sure my SpamGuard is set correctly? On your Yahoo! Mail screen you will see three link items directly under your web search box in the upper right corner of your screen. Click on "Options" and then "Mail Options" from the pull down menu. In the left hand panel select "Spam". The first category are your SpamGuard settings. It would be worthwhile to read what SpamGuard is all about by clicking here. Regardless, set or leave set SpamGuard to active by checking the box in front the statement.

Where do I find all these folders? All your folders are listed in the left hand panel of your Yahoo! Mail main page. A lot of good stuff here which could be of great use in your email utilization. If your not familiar with the available folders I urge you take the time to see what is there. You can add folders for your file use as well.

7. Change the Credit Card Specified For Use In This System

Note that absolutely no credit card information is stored or included as a requirement by our system. We use PayPal as our payment processing agent and once an amount is indicated as required, you are transfered to the encrypted PayPal system to handle payment. You will be offered an opportunity to pay by either a credit card of your choice, or your PayPal account funds. There will be more than a little pressure to open a PayPal account if you do not have one or to use it if you do. With a little care you can use a credit card of your choice for your transaction settlement without a PayPal account. After payment is completed you will be offered a link to take you back to the ABC web site to complete the transaction and receive the download link(s).

8. Actually play and transfer the lecture files to a portable player

Let's assume you have successfully downloaded a file that looks something like Acts-04_020111.mp3 and know where it is on your computer. Now what? How would I actually play the lecture and transfer it to my portable MP3 player for example? Not difficult but definitely more complex.

The first question you must answer is what am intending to do with the downloaded file? If it is "just" listening to these lectures on your computer, than you likely already have software available on your computer to do that and more. I am going to aim this discussion at Windows PC users as the largest group but similar software is undoubtedly available on other systems of hardware/operating system. Check in the listing of loaded software for a program named Windows Media Player. I believe all full Windows installations includes that program. If you can't locate a copy on your machine Click Here to download a no cost copy. A note of caution, you will be required to validate your installation of Windows in order to do the download and installation. It would also be beneficial to download the help/instruction file associated with this software by Clicking Here.

After doing the installation and loading the program you should see a program screen like:

During the installation you will be asked to specify which file types will be handled by WMP (Windows Media Player) as well whether you would like to have WMP catalog music and other audio files in your library. Makes these files simple to play using WMP. I suggest you try playing some of the audio music or lecture files you undoubtedly have on your system to get familiar with WMP. They would likely have been cataloged in the Library of WMP.

There are any number of portable MP3 players that can be used to listen to downloaded lectures on the go. I am going to describe the procedure to follow with the Sansa 2GB SanDisk as an example. Connect the player to your computer via an USB cable and connector. The Operating System should immediately identify it as a recognized device and add it to the WMP display as another category of storage device and appear as follows:

Notice that the player is not only represented in the listing on the left as a device available for storage of files for playing, but also noted in the extreme right hand panel, with details and accessing means for moving those file between the device and computer storage.

Let's discuss how to move a file to the portable device. First click on the Library and locate the file or files you want to transfer. I would recommend you then identify that grouping of files as a Playlist and save that grouping. You would then select the Sync function and drag and drop that playlist (or the individual files) to the spot so designated in the right hand panel. Click on the "start Sync button at the bottom of that panel and watch the transfer taking place. You will be informed when you can disconnect the player and the memory on the player will be finalized and the transfer completed immediately after that disconnect.
