August 2010 Newsletter - Addendum
Remember that the St. Anne's class opens the fall quarter on Weds. Sept. 8th and all other venues open the week of September 13-17.
We did it, the Summer Series "Daily Life in the Time of Jesus" has come to an end. All the lectures and the slides associated with the lectures are now available on the website and are listed under the Summer Series banner. We had a great turn out this summer and all of you who attended the lectures are to be congratulated for your dedication to the series. We covered a good deal of material and you should be rightfully proud of what you have accomplished. It is still as true as ever, never forget what good students you are!
With the conclusion of the summer series I am free for the next two weeks. Sunday will find me on a plane to Billings, Montana so that I can spend the better part of the week fishing the legendary Madison River just outside of Ennis, Montana. I will be sure to remember all of my classes in my daily prayer/fly-fishing meetings on the river. I return late in the week and then begin to get ready for another exciting fall session.
Keep an eye out for our September newsletter that you will either receive via email or access through this "Kevin Says..." section of the website. I am going to list all the venues and the books we will open with in September. Remember that I have two NEW class openings this fall, one at St. Clement of Rome in Sun City and another at Our Lady of Perpetual Help (OLPH) in Scottsdale. The OLPH class is the new "Beginning, Middle and End" class and will open on Monday mornings (Sept. 13th, 9 - 10:30 am) with a study of the entire book of Genesis.
That's all for now. Be good while we are away. I will look forward to greeting you (or meeting you) in September.
Peace,
Kevin

August Newsletter - Arizona Bible Class
Greetings friends! I am writing you from the airport in Boston, MA as I wait for my flight home from the east coast. I had a chance to spend five days with my brothers at a Virginia lake house and another week with Diane in Boston. Diane is now only one year away from completing her Masters Degree in Education at Boston College. The weather has been hot and humid and I can’t wait to get home to some real heat in the Valley of the Sun.
It is always fun to travel and even more enjoyable when I am asked to explain to new friends what I actually do for a living. When people find out that I teach the Bible as a full time profession and I explain the nature and scope of the Bible class they normally respond that they would love to have such a Bible class (like the one you attend) in their own area. I let them know that the website is a serviceable substitute but there is nothing like a live Bible teacher in a familiar venue to bring the Word of God alive. I am always excited to share with people the good work that is being done in our Arizona Bible Class venues. Each week hundreds of students, just like you, are able to engage and study the entire Bible in a local church. When you are away from Arizona you begin to realize what a gift it is to have this kind of a class in the Phoenix area.
By now you know that our summer classes open in August. I will be able to squeeze in one more fishing trip to Bend, Oregon (on the Deschutes River) before I return to the valley to open the Summer Series on Monday, August 2, at St. Helen’s in Glendale.
Summer Series News
The opening of the Summer Series is just around the corner (the week of August 2-5). The opening lecture for the "Daily Life in the Time of Jesus" series is entitled - "When World’s Collide".
In the opening lecture I will detail the political, cultural and religious situation into which the Romans inserted themselves some sixty five years before the birth of Jesus. We will make sense of the time period that began with the Maccabean revolt and ended with Pontius Pilate in control of Jerusalem and the Holy Land during the ministry of Jesus. When we understand the influence of Rome on the history of Jesus’ time we will then move confidently into an examination of his daily life and times.
Please feel free to invite guests to attend any or all of these lectures. We know that the Summer Series can be a natural springboard into our on-going classes that meet during the academic year.
Here is the Summer Session Schedule:
Monday Evening - St. Helen’s, Glendale - 7-9 pm - Aug. 2,9,16,23
Tuesday Morning - Love of Christ, Mesa - 10-12 am - Aug. 3,10,17,24
Tuesday Evening - St. Patricks’, Scottsdale - 7-9 pm - Aug. 3,10,17,24

Weds. Evening - St. Annes’, Gilbert - 7-9 pm - Aug. 4,11,18,25

Arizona Bible Class Coming Events
New "One Year" Bible Beginning, Middle and The End Class
I have secured a new Bible Class venue at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in Scottsdale. The special course I will teach there is called "The Bible: The Beginning, the Middle and the End".
On Monday mornings (9 - 10:30 am) at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Community in Scottsdale I will teach through the entire book of Genesis, then the through the entire Gospel of Matthew and finally through the complete Book of Revelation.
Get it? The Bible: the beginning (Genesis), the middle (Gospel of Matthew) and the end (Book of Revelation). This class will not take the place of my regular class but will give students in the OLPH area a chance to engage in a Bible study experience like you all have each week. The fee for this class will be the same as for my regular classes ( per quarter). Start spreading the good word and let’s see if we can fill Maguire Hall in September.
Fall Retreat at The Casa
Our annual fall retreat at the Casa in Paradise Valley is on the books and scheduled for Friday Nov. 19 through Sunday Nov. 21. The theme for this year’s retreat is "Forgive Us Our Sins". Dr. Creasy, Rabbi Michael and I will offer our unique, Bible based insights on this very interesting topic.
Overnight accommodations are available as well as commuter rates by calling The Franciscan Renewal Center directly at 480-948-7460. Call now to reserve a room and/or the retreat weekend. Always refer to the event as the Dr. Creasy retreat because that is the way they have the event listed in their computer records. It is a popular retreat and it fills up quickly.
Finally
Thank you for taking the time to read this newsletter. I would encourage you to help us grow this ministry by inviting someone new to a summer session or fall Bible class. Our best advertisement for the Bible class is you! I will remind you again that this past June two beautiful women from the Sun City class graduated and both were over 90 years young. That means that each woman began the class when she was 83 years of age! It is never too late to begin a journey through the Bible.
Don’t forget to check the Arizona Bible Class out on the web at ArizonaBibleClass.com. You can keep up to date on the latest announcements by checking out the "Kevin says..." tab on the left side of the opening page. The website is also your best portal to Executours, our official travel company where you can find out more information on travel and register for that travel on line.
Never forget what good students you are...

Arizona Bible Class News
Greetings one and all....
It's official, summer is here and the daily temps now soar beyond the century mark. I have been fortunate enough to beat the heat with a series of high country fishing trips and the occasional foray over to the cool climes of San Diego. This summer Josh and Rachi are working at Camp Surf. Jessi, my oldest daughter lives there with her husband and our second grandchild, Clare. I get a lot of visiting done with each trip. By the way, Rachi was accepted by and will attend Boston College in the fall. That means that Mr. Notre Dame will have daughters attending both USC and Boston College for the next few years. It should make for a good fall rivalry when their teams play the mighty fighting Irish.
Hang in there through the heat of July. Let's pray it gives way to a generous monsoon so that by the opening of the Summer Series we will have had a respite from the heat.
Summer Session News
I will present the theme "Daily Life in the Time of Jesus" in all of my regular venues (including St. Clement of Rome in Sun City). Graduation at St. Clement of Rome in Sun City
We did it again! Another class graduated this week in Arizona. This is the fifth class that has graduated in Arizona since I began teaching here ten years ago. This time we celebrated the accomplishments of 60 men and women who attend my St. Clement of Rome class in Sun City. We celebrated this feat with a wonderfully catered lunch that featured yours truly as the keynote speaker. It was a honor to greet so many good students and their guests who gathered in a numbers surpassing 90 for the luncheon. This class features two graduates who are over 90 years young, both of whom intend to start the class over again this fall. I am constantly amazed by the dedication of you, the students of the Arizona Bible Class.
In the Sun City class if you are in town and you are in good health you are in class. This class could have won an attendance award for this inspiring dedication. The best part of this report is that we are poised to start the Bible class all over again this fall. The new class opens at St. Clement of Rome on Thursday, Sept. 16th. Tell your friends to get there early, it is going to be packed.
Colorado Graduation Report
As we all continue our journey through the Bible by attending class each week to engage in this live teaching event others, like our fellow students in Boulder Colorado listen to the same lectures via my Mp3 recordings. A particular groups, some 30 strong, have completed the journey and celebrated their graduation in their home church. I was able to send the graduation certificates to them and they took over from there. These 30 (plus) students intend to start a new class and follow the course all over again with my more recent recordings. I am always so happy to report accomplishments like this.
Summer Vacation
By the end of the week all of the Arizona classes will be on our six week summer break. Remember that the Summer Session, "Daily Life in the Time of Jesus" will open in all of our regular venues (including St. Clement of Rome) in the first week of August. Take a look at last months Email Newsletter for specific dates, times and a synopsis of the lecture series. Otherwise plan to be with us in San Diego on Aug. 7th for our first San Diego Seminar at the Logos Student Center (again, see last months Email newsletter)
